Where can I get emission information at a local or national level?
The NAEI data warehouse page links to different types of Air Emissions data.
Is it worth considering emissions sources other then major roads and part A and B industries?
The answer depends on a local judgement about the magnitude of these activities in your area. Sources in this category which may possibly be significant in relation to AQ objectives in certain particular circumstances are: domestic coal combustion, larger boilers, larger airports, (diesel) railway termini or depots near residences, shipping in-port abutting residences, etc. Smaller airfields, heritage railways, off-road vehicles and emissions from biogenic or natural sources are most unlikely to be significant in this context.
Where can I find information about global CO2 emissions?
Various websites are available which document CO2 emissions by various countries. Examples are http://cait.wri.org/ and here.
Do maps and data sources of pollutants exist for the individual constituent countries of the UK?
Please see the Air Quality and the Greenhouse Gas inventory reports for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the reports section of the NAEI website.
Is it possible to see the level of pollutants in the UK over the last 30 years?
The NAEI annual report gives the estimation pollutant emissions over a time series often going back to 1970. These can be accessed via the reports section of this website
Is the NFR code used in the UK different from the SNAP code used in different countries?
Yes, NFR codes are different to SNAP codes. What we use in the UK depends on who the data is being submitted to. SNAP codes were developed by the European Environment Agency's European Topic Centre on air emissions and so when reporting to the EC's Corinair this format is used. NFR codes have been developed for reporting under the UN/ECE. For information on what is included under each SNAP/NFR codes I suggest you look at the EMEP/CORINAIR website
How can I find emissions by local councils?
Go to the Data Warehouse section of this website and select the 5th option (mapped emission data) followed by 'all emissions by UNECE sector'. You can now click on the pollutant you are interested in. This will produce a list from which the council of interest can be selected. |
