How is mapped emission data derived?
The report ' NAEI UK emission mapping methodology 2003' provides details on how mapped data is found. This can be downloaded.
What units is mapped emission data provided in?
The mapped emissions data is provided in terms of tonnes per kilometre square per year.
What map co-ordinates do you use, and how do they relate to the O.S. co-ordinates? (e.g. Edinburgh Airport is at approx. NT162734 on O.S. maps, but the listings for Edinburgh Airports emissions in the Data Warehouse are at around 313673.)
NT162734 refers to OS landline tile NT162734 whereas the NAEI maps are provided in terms of grid co-ordinates with an easting and a northing as you would find on an ordnance survey map. The grid reference is for the centre of the 1 kilometre square.
For the 1x1km emission data what does the category 08 - other transport include?
08- Other Transport includes all transport modes other than road, i.e. rail (but only from diesel trains, not electric trains where emissions occur at the power stations not at point of use), shipping (UK coastal, fishing), domestic aviation (for the take-off and landing phase of the aviation cycle, up to 1,000m altitude), and off-road transport and machinery, such as agricultural tractors, machinery used in construction and industry (e.g. cranes, portable generators), airport support machinery, domestic house and garden machinery (e.g. lawn mowers, chain saws). More details on the mapping methodology can be found on the NAEI website. |
